Support
Setup, what the app's statuses mean, and how to get help.
Set up
- Open RNDISaurus from the Applications folder and click Activate Driver.
- Allow it in System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions › Driver Extensions (on macOS 14, Privacy & Security). macOS asks for your administrator password.
- Plug in your phone and turn on USB tethering.
The phone appears in the RNDISaurus window, and as an Ethernet connection in System Settings › Network. If you used HoRNDIS or another RNDIS driver, remove it first.
What the app shows
- Link up
- The phone is connected and sharing its connection.
- Connecting… or Retrying…
- The driver is setting up the phone. If it stays this way, unplug the phone and plug it in again.
- Link down
- The driver is talking to the phone, but the phone reports its link as down. Turn USB tethering off and on.
- Failed
- Setting up the phone failed. Unplug it and plug it in again; if it keeps failing, report it.
- Re-plug to update
- A driver update is installed, but this phone still uses the previous driver. Unplug it and plug it in again, or turn USB tethering off and on.
- Driver not active
- The phone offers RNDIS, but the driver isn't active. Activate it in RNDISaurus.
- Re-plug needed
- The driver is active but didn't pick the phone up. Unplug the phone and plug it in again, or turn USB tethering off and on.
- Another driver
- Another driver, such as HoRNDIS, is using the phone. Remove it, then plug the phone in again.
- Not supported
- Apple hasn't yet approved RNDISaurus for devices from this maker, or the device uses a form of RNDIS that RNDISaurus doesn't support yet. Request the maker.
- Uses NCM or Uses ECM
- macOS supports this phone without RNDISaurus. Look for it in System Settings › Network.
Connected, but no internet
- Check that the phone itself is online, and that your plan allows tethering. Some carriers block or limit it.
- If the Mac is also on Wi-Fi, it uses whichever connection comes first in the service order. In System Settings › Network, open the ⋯ menu and choose Set Service Order.
- Try another cable or USB port, and plug the phone straight into the Mac rather than through a hub.
Deactivate or uninstall
To turn the driver off, open RNDISaurus › Settings and click Deactivate Driver. To uninstall, deactivate the driver, then move RNDISaurus to the Trash.
Report a problem
Open Window › Diagnostics, click Copy Diagnostics, and paste the report into a GitHub issue or an email to info@n4h4.com, with your phone's model and Android version.
Request a phone maker
macOS only lets RNDISaurus drive devices from makers Apple has approved. If yours isn't on the list, request it so it can be part of the next request to Apple.
